After another winning week, here’s another three-pack of best bets in college football and the NFL from this week’s episode of the Doggy Juice Podcast. You know the drill…
Let's get into it👇
🏈 Memphis @ Cincinnati: Cincinnati -6.5
Cincinnati has looked every bit the part so far this season, and while this certainly isn’t a “buy low” spot on a program sporting the best defense in the AAC (a unit that held the high-powered SMU offense to only 3.4 yards per play last week), laying less than a touchdown to conference rival Memphis at home on Saturday is a very strong play not only numbers-wise but also from a situational standpoint.
The Bearcats lost back-to-back games against the Tigers at the end of the season last year (the latter coming in the AAC title game), so you better believe head coach Luke Fickell, his staff and the Cincinnati players have had this game circled on their calendars for quite some time. They take on a Memphis team that has seen several key players opt out of this season due to COVID-19, which has impacted their power rating even more than oddsmakers are letting on. Give me the Bearcats at the consensus -6.5 out there in the marketplace this weekend.
🏈 Charlotte @ Duke: Charlotte +10
Charlotte catching 10 points on the road at Duke is one of my favorite Week 9 underdog spots in college football. The market seems to be agreeing with that sentiment, with some books down to Duke -9 from a consensus opener of -11, although there are still a few 10s out there at the time of this publication. Reduce the investment size at Charlotte +9, but also be sure to sprinkle some moneyline on the very live underdog here in the +280/+290 range.
Junior QB Chris Reynolds brings experience and dual-threat capability to Saturday’s matchup for the 49ers, who may be getting an extra point or two of value on the point spread after failing to cover last weekend against UTEP. Another important aspect to consider is the fact that many of the Charlotte players grew up in the same area as many of the Duke players. A lot of those guys are familiar with one another from playing together in high school, so this matchup has the potential to feature an old playground back-and-forth type of feel. I’ll gladly take the double-digit points with the visitors in what will be one of their biggest games of the season.
🏈 Colts @ Lions: Total points UNDER 50
Neither of these two teams are particularly fast in terms of overall pace on offense. In fact, Indianapolis is bottom seven in pace this season according to Football Outsiders. A Colts defense that sits alongside Tampa Bay at the top of the league in opponent yards per play allowed enters Sunday’s matchup well-rested off the bye week while their opponent has shown improvement on the defensive side of the ball after their own bye two weeks ago.
The Lions defense certainly isn’t anything to write home about, but I do believe they are being undervalued by the market at this point in time. Call this one good at 49 or better and also take a look at the home underdog catching +3 here for a small position as well.
