The Doggy Juice Podcast is broadcasting live from Los Angeles! Here’s a three-pack of best bets in college football and the NFL from this week’s episode.
The Bearcats haven’t played a game in four weeks after dealing with Covid-19 issues. Not only is it foreseeable that they may come into this matchup with some rust, but they may also enter Saturday in a state of collective deflation after getting the shaft by the committee in the most recent College Football Playoff rankings. Since it now has no realistic chance to play in next month’s CFP, this is setting up to be a letdown spot for Cincinnati.
On the other side of the ball is a hungry Tulsa team that won’t come into this matchup with much pressure catching more than two touchdowns. They were scheduled to host Cincy twice this season, but both of those games were never played. Instead Tulsa navigated its regular-season schedule unscathed outside of an opening week loss on the road at No. 19 Oklahoma State –a game the Golden Hurricane led in the fourth quarter anyway (hardly a loss to be ashamed of). Expect Tulsa to come into this matchup with a chip on its shoulder and with a great chance to keep this game within two touchdowns, which is all we’ll need to cash our ticket.
💰 Pick: Tulsa +14.5
🏈 NFL 6-point, 2-team teaser
It has been a banner year for teasers in the NFL and although the Week 15 teaser card isn’t as appetizing as previous weeks, there is one stand-out play for us bettors to get after. As stated here previously, a two-team, six-point NFL teaser that crosses through the key numbers of 3 and 7, also known as the Stanford Wong teaser, can give us bettors a nice mathematical edge over the book (as long as the vigorish isn’t too much above the standard -110). Advantage teasers in the NFL continue to cash at a very high rate in 2020, and we are 8-3 on the official Doggy Juice Pod Teasers of the Week this season.
Teasing the Packers from -8 down to -2 at home against the Panthers is the first leg of our teaser this week. By crossing through the 7 and the 3 all we are asking Aaron Rodgers and Co. to do is essentially win the game outright at home. As our second leg, let’s tease the Patriots up from +1.5 to +7.5 on the road in an important inter-division matchup against a Dolphins team that enters the weekend with a plethora of injuries, particularly to the skill position group. In a game with a low total at 41.5, points will be tougher to come by in Miami on Sunday, thus increasing the relative value of each respective point we tease through in the process – yet we are still paying the same price.
💰 Pick: Packers -2 and Patriots +7.5
Playing a double-digit road favorite in an inter-division rivalry on primetime is not usually a spot where I like to lay points, but the Steelers laying less than two TDs on Monday night in this spot against the hapless Bengals screams betting value on my numbers.
Pittsburgh finally gets extra rest after playing three games in an 11-day period – a problem that was exacerbated by the fact that Mike Tomlin’s squad had no real bye week to speak of this season. Even though it has stumbled in recent weeks, some of it due to injuries, the vaunted Steeler defense should have its way with a Bengals team already looking forward to the offseason. I don’t expect Big Ben and the Pittsburgh offense to take their foot off the gas early in this one either, as they should be eager to make amends coming off back-to-back losses the last two weeks and with talking heads in the media around the nation going sour on them as a result. This is a great spot to get into play on the clearly better team that should also bring the requisite motivation to win by a sizable margin.
💰 Pick: Steelers -13
