At this time last year, Bill Self had his Kansas teamed primed. Probably the best team in the nation, Kansas was heading down the stretch to its customary 1-seed and was jockeying for position with co-titan Baylor in the Big 12.
Fast-forward a year, and Baylor looks like the best team in college hoops, and everyone is wondering what’s wrong with Kansas? While they’re not the juggernaut they were in 19-20, they’re a team that nobody wants to see on the 5 or 6-line next month.
After falling out of the Top-25, they’re suddenly back in and traveling to rival Kansas State. While Kansas has way too much offensive ability to lose to Kansas State tonight, Bruce Weber has proven a thorn in the side of Self, and could muster up a decent enough effort to keep his team close before his ultimate firing.
Instead, I’m looking at the player props in this one and really love the Christian Braun over at 11 points. He went for 18 in their first matchup of the season, and as Kansas’ best shooter, will be the beneficiary of an overmatched K-State interior. If they don’t want to get killed inside by David McCormack, they’ll have to double in and pack the lane - opening up opportunities for Braun to surpass that 11-point mark without too much volume tonight.
If you’re looking for a bonus bet out there tonight, or maybe even a parlay if you’re feeling saucy, take Indiana at home -6.5. Minnesota is blown out of most Big Ten road venues, and Indiana needs this one to keep their tourney hopes alive.
