Cardinals @ Pirates: Predictions, picks and bets

September 19, 2020 3:44 PM

The St Louis Cardinals head into today’s game against Pittsburgh full of confidence having swept a doubleheader against the Pirates yesterday.

It means that St Louis now finds themselves with a .500 record and are getting closer to forcing their way into postseason contention.

Will they keep that record rolling today, or can the lowly Pirates spring a surprise?

💪 Run line: Pirates +1.5 (-115*) has a 55% probability

Pittsburgh hasn’t had a lot to get excited about this season with one of the worst records in the league, but they’ve been a quiet achiever for Dimers and we’re riding them again today.

The Cardinals took both games of the doubleheader between the two yesterday, 6-5 and 7-2 respectively. The Pirates were able to get a win on Thursday, though, and we think their good to keep it close at the very least today.

💵 Pirates H2H (+150*) has a 3.3% edge on the sportsbooks

They’re dogs. They’re almost always dogs. That’s why we like taking them! They’ve only won 15 games so far this season, but our model thinks they’re priced a bit too generously by the sportsbooks today. Definitely worth a little nibble on this one.

👆 o8 runs (-121*) has a 53% probability

The Pirates will need to weather the storm of starting Cardinals pitcher Kwang-Hyn Kim who has an unbelievable ERA of 0.63 from a pretty decent sample size of 28 innings pitched this year. If Pittsburgh can get through the early innings and perhaps claim a hit or two, the bullpen may be rolled out early which is where we can expect the runs to flow. Our model suggests the over in this.

⚾️ Dimers' take-out

Pittsburgh look like value today as the swings and roundabouts of the MLB always seem to deliver up some surprises. Take our run line for the best in this one and take a bite at the other markets if you want to juice up your parlays.
