Big Gambling Win: How An Accidental Extra 2 Led to a $20,000 Win

An errant additional 2 in the bet stake field led to a cash of almost $20,000 on Wednesday night's NBA playoffs for one bettor who simply decided ‘why not?’

Antonio Thomas, a stalwart of the Gambling Twitter community, known under the handle @akatoned, hit a 3-leg parlay totalling odds of +781 across the three games on Wednesday night’s NBA playoff slate. The parlay, consisting of Georges Niang, Al Horford and Brook Lopez all to hit at least 2+ three-pointers turned a stake of $2,222.22, into a handsome sum of $19,588.86 with DraftKings Sportsbook.

Speaking to Dimers.com, the 23-year-old said the bet stake - the largest ever bet he had made in his life - wasn’t exactly the original plan.

“It was kind of an accident,” he recalled of the bet size.

“I’ve been betting a lot of $222.22 parlays of 3-4 players to hit 2+ threes.

“(On Wednesday) I went to bet one of those but hit an extra 2 by accident.”

Realizing his error before confirming his bet, the Pennsylvania bettor decided to press forward with the huge stake anyway, referencing an already successful week of wagering as justification to chase the $20k payday.

And the somewhat accidental decision could not have turned out better. After Al Horford’s standout night, going 3-6 from deep for the Celtics in their comeback win over the Nets, Georges Niang was on fire for the Sixers, hitting 3 of his 4 long range bombs in quick succession to leave just Brook Lopez to bring it home in Milwaukee. He wasted no time, cashing the monster ticket in the second quarter.

“Insane feeling,” Tony said of the moment Lopez swished his second three.

“I’ve never bet over $1,000 on a play ever, and the first one I do, it smacks, and it was honestly sweat free.” he said.

“Watching and seeing the players cash the threes was just the best feeling I’ve ever had.”

As for plans for the winnings? He’s not totally sure yet.

“I want to go out of the country somewhere and plan a trip for that. I also want to get a Tesla, so that might be a downpayment.”

But one thing is for sure: if you’re a gambler on a hot streak, you have to try to keep the momentum rolling. And you know Tony is running it back on Thursday.
