Betting Preview for the 2022 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix

This Sunday will see Formula 1 travel to Texas for the US Grand Prix, just outside of Austin. Purpose built for F1 racing, COTA was an instant favorite amongst drivers and fans when it hosted its first US Grand Prix in 2012.

The 3.41-mile hybrid track famously borrows inspiration from iconic raceways Silverstone and Suzuka, with a wide variety of corner layouts,
straightaway lengths, and grades. Look for the US Grand Prix to deliver pulse-pounding, overtaking action, as it has since 2012.

Our Dimers.com F1 expert takes a look at the best bets for the 2022 US Grand Prix this weekend.

What’s at stake?

Max Verstappen clinched the Drivers’ Championship last week in Japan; for Red Bull, however the work is not done, as the Austrian automaker can lock up the Constructors Cup with a first-place finish from either driver this Sunday. Though a Red Bull team championship has seemed a foregone conclusion for weeks, the significance of this moment cannot be understated.Mercedes has won the last eight Constructors Championships, in spite of Lewis Hamilton failing to secure the Driver’s Cup last year. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner will be licking his chips to secure an absolute victory over longtime rival Toto Wolff, who runs the show at Mercedes.

United States Grand Prix Best Bets

Red Bull wins Constructor’s Cup. This one is just too easy to pass up. Not only can Red Bull win the Constructor’s Cup if either Max Verstappen or Sergio Perez takes first on Sunday, in order to remain in contention, Ferrari will need to outscore Red Bull by 19 points, a highly improbable outcome even if Verstappen and Perez put in poor showings.

Charles Leclerc outscores Sergio Perez. While first place has already been sewn up in the Driver’s Cup, second is wide open, with Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez entering the weekend in a dead heat, at 207 points apiece. Perez has been on a tear lately, but Leclerc, who’s been handicapped by strategy and reliability issues all year, is due for a great showing. Look for the Monegasque to secure a better finish in Austin, and break the tie for second.

Haas outscore AlphaTauri. At the bottom of the Constructors Cup standings exists another tie, between Haas and AlphaTauri, for eighth place. But don’t let the lowly 34 points possessed by each team trick you into thinking nothing is on the line. In F1, moving up a single position in the standings results in tens of millions of dollars in prize money and sponsorship incentives. In Austin, Haas will be operating with homefield advantage, particularly at the notorious “Haas Hill,” between turns 18 and 19. Look for AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly to secure the best overall finish of the four Haas or AlphaTauri drivers, but for Haas’ Mick Schumacher and Kevin
Magnessen both to outscore Yuki Tsunoda, earning Haas enough points to stand alone in eight
place.
