Betting Preview for the 2022 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix

Following an unusual three-week absence resulting from the Russian Grand Prix’s omission from Formula 1’s 2022 calendar, F1 is back this weekend with the 13th edition of the Singapore Grand Prix.
Run at the curvy and treacherous Marina Bay Circuit, the Singapore Grand Prix is one of just four night races on the 2022 schedule, and two-time champion Fernando Alonso has described the street circuit as “Monaco of the east,” in reference to the track’s glamorous route through the skyscrapers of downtown Singapore.
Defined by its tight curves and grueling conditions, Marina Bay Circuit rarely fails to produce heart-pounding overtakes and crashes. This year should be more hair-raising than ever as heavy rains, and perhaps even thunderstorms, are forecast for race time.
Our Dimers.com F1 expert takes a look at the best bets for the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix this weekend.

What’s at stake?
The Driver’s Championship. With Red Bull’s Max Verstappen enjoying a 116-point lead, the Dutchman could wrap up his second consecutive Driver’s Championship with a finish 22 points better than Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, nine points better than fellow Red Bull Driver Sergio Perez, and six points better than Mercedes’ George Russell. Unless Leclerc DNFs, it’s unlikely Verstappen will secure the necessary margin. But it’s not out of the question: in spite of his second place points position, Leclerc has already failed to complete three races this season. Sunday’s conditions could be conducive to a similar outcome.
Singapore Grand Prix Best Bets
Verstappen does NOT win Driver’s Championship: We’ve already covered the mathematics of why it’s improbable Verstappen will lock in his second consecutive Driver’s Championship on Sunday, but it should also be noted that Red Bull’s setup is far better suited to the lengthy straightaways and banked corners of a track like Monza than to a street circuit in the mold of Marina Bay. Further, of the races Charles Leclerc has managed to finish this season, he has never placed lower than sixth. It would take a Leclerc finish of seventh of worse for Verstappen to have a mathematical chance of securing the championship in Singapore. With that said, Verstappen’s pace remains lightyears ahead of the field, and while Marina Bay isn’t ideal for his low downforce setup, he is the odds-on favorite to take the victory this weekend, and for good reason.
Schumacher in the points. While Mick Schumacher’s Haas team has underperformed of late, Schumacher himself has been on an upward trajectory. Additionally, Haas has been highly competitive in Singapore in recent years, with the fastest lap ever recorded at Marina Bay belonging to Kevin Magnussen, accomplished during his first stint with Haas in 2018. Look for Schumacher, who is driving for his 2023 seat, to finish in the points in Singapore.
