The Phils did exactly what was asked of them last night against the Nationals: they took bad pitching and they stomped on them with a 5-3 victory that really, could have been more. Philadelphia get another chance to go big tonight against another bad Washington pitching lineup with Erick Fedde (6-9, 5.08 ERA) getting the start, up against Ranger Suárez (8-5, 3.52 ERA). While Fedde was able to produce in his last appearance on September 4 against the Mets, that kind of form has been a rarity for him this season. The Phillies are by no means safe in their quest for a Wild Card position and they'll need to continue to be ruthless against the poor teams on the run home.

Guardians vs. Twins, 7:15PM ET

It was Cleveland who drew first blood in the battle for the AL Central last night, barely holding on to record a 7-6 win and put just a little more breathing room between themselves and the Twins. While it does seem like these two teams are evenly matched and the series could ebb and flow throughout the weekend, high scoring contests may just be the constant theme. Tonight, Chris Archer (2-7, 4.47 ERA) will start on the mound for the Twins, while the Guardians will counter with Triston McKenzie (9-11, 3.18 ERA). Archer in particular has been a concern for Minnesota with a 7.43 ERA over his last three starts. If those numbers stay true, the Twins will need to be aggressive to keep up with the pace that the Guardians set.

Cardinals vs. Pirates, 7:35PM ET

The Cardinals were destroyed by the Pirates last night but we're not expecting them to stay down for long with JT Brubaker (3-11, 4.35 ERA) heading to the mound for Pittsburgh. The Pirates have only won twice in Brubaker's last 10 starts, being comprehensively outmuscled consistently. This St. Louis team ranks 3rd in the MLB for offense with 4.96 runs per game and need to set the tone early and establish a large lead against one of the lesser pitchers in the league.
