Alfa Romeo's Valtteri Bottas the dark horse bet to win the 2022 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix

Formula 1 heads to Barcelona this weekend for the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc leading the Driver Standings.

Dimers.com F1 expert Brad Montagne breaks down what is sure to be a fascinating contest.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen goes for his third straight win and comes in the favorite at -105, but he’ll have plenty of competition in his bid for a three-peat, including Valtteri Bottas who comes in at an alluring +11000 longshot bet with FanDuel Sportsbook as of Tuesday.

The track at Barcelona-Catalunya has long straightaways. This will favor the rocket ships of Ferrari and Red Bull once again. For the second straight race, the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc is second favorite at odds of +135.

Now come the interesting odds. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz (+1400) and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (+1600) are good value bets, but not as good as Bottas at +11000.

Perez finished second in the Australian Grand Prix on April 10 and also the Italian Grand Prix on April 24, before slipping to fourth in the last race at Miami, one spot behind Sainz, who got back on the podium for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix on March 27.

But my hunch is that Bottas and his Alfa Romeo will make it to the podium this week. He holds the record on this track for cars in the modern era.

This track is used as a test track so all drivers have seen plenty of laps here. Bottas has shown he is faster than them all when he was with Mercedes.

At +11000 he’s a great small bet that would pay enormously, even to place or show.

Last weekend I bet on Bottas being the fastest of the rest — not Red Bull or Ferrari — and won $330 on a $5 bet. So maybe I’m a little biased, but he does hold the record on the Spanish GP track.

Don’t forget, there are lots of ways to bet — fastest lap, winner, podium (top 3) fastest in practice, and fastest pit stop where Team Williams is always a good bet.

Rain doesn’t appear to be a factor this weekend and the track isn’t a disaster like Miami was two weeks ago so this should be a great race with lots of battles on every lap.
