What’s at stake?
Though Max Verstappen’s dominance throughout the 2023 season has created an illusion of disparity on the F1 grid, the reality is that besides Verstappen’s Red Bull, the field is extraordinarily competitive. A continuous string of upgrades from Mercedes, Aston Martin, Williams, and Alpine have only increased mid-field competition in recent weeks, a trend that projects to continue with McLaren’s hotly anticipated upgrade package debuting in Austria. Add to that that sprint races are ideal point-scoring opportunities for middle-of-the-pack teams and drivers, with front-runners driving cautiously to avoid wrecks that could put them out of contention for the the actual grand prix, and the Austrian GP is poised deliver some of the best Formula 1 betting opportunities of the season.

Austrian Grand Prix Best Bets
Fernando Alonso has been incredibly consistent all year, finding the podium in six of eight races. With Aston Martin rolling out another upgrade package at Red Bull Ring, Alonso to podium at -160 is the perfect safety wager around which to build your Austrian Grand Prix betting ticket.

Though reliability issues marred Lando Norris’ results early in the season, McLaren’s top driver is clearly on the upswing, with Norris securing what would have been his fourth points finish in eight starts, if not for a 5-second penalty assigned after the Canadian Grand Prix was over. More importantly, McLaren personnel are more optimistic heading into Austria than they have been all season, owing to the arrival of the team’s most substantial upgrade package of 2023. With Norris likely to be a regular point scorer the rest of the season, a top ten finish at -105 in Austria looks like great odds.

There’s a lot to like about a points finish from Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas at +400. For one thing, Bottas loves the track, owning the record for fastest lap ever recorded in Montreal back in his days at Mercedes. For another, Montreal and Bahrain are inherently similar circuits, and the Finnish driver’s best result of the season came in Bahrain with an eighth place finish. The likelihood of rain this weekend is another reason to suspect a few unlikely point scorers. So, if you’re looking for a reach at great odds, Bottas is your man. Clearly, this is the biggest reach on the list, and conservative bettors will want to steer clear, but who doesn't love a little plus money value?
