The greatest road cycling race in the world looks set to finally get underway, despite battling against the global pandemic that is COVID-19.
Reigning champion Egan Bernal returns in a bid to defend his crown, however, he will have a serious battle on his hands. The likes of Primoz Roglic, Tom Dumoulin, and local hope Thibaut Pinot are all legitimate chances of standing atop the podium in Paris. If you're interested in some action on Le Tour you can review the best online sportsbooks in your state here.
As mentioned, there are several General Classification (Yellow Jersey) contenders, with Bernal and Roglic leading the bunch. It's incredibly tough to defend your title at the Tour and the pressure on the 23-year-old Bernal will be immense. However, he is a prestigious talent and it would surprise no one if he was wearing yellow down the Champs-Élysées.
Dumoulin, Pinot and Nairo Quintana should all be part of the action in the major mountain stages, while Slovenian Tadej Pogacar looks ready for an excellent debut Tour.
However, of all of Bernal's challengers, Roglic looks the most likely to take the crown. The 30-year-old crashed in the Dauphine but is fit and ready to go for the Tour. He will have teammate Dumoulin alongside him in the mountains, and has a number of other strong support riders, such as George Bennett, who has two Grand Tour top 10s, and Robert Gesink, who has finished in the top six twice previously in the Tour de France.
🔥 Pick: Primoz Roglic (+220*)
*Bet $100, win $220
Seven-time green jersey winner Peter Sagan is once again favorite to take out the Points Classification (Green Jersey) and it's hard to argue against the sportsbooks.
Australian sprint star Michael Matthews has already stated that he will be chasing stage wins instead of the green jersey, and none of the other top contenders have the pure speed, whilst also being able to travel over the mountains, as the Slovak Sagan. He is relatively short in the market but is clearly the top pick.
🔥 Pick: Peter Sagan (-143*)
*Bet $143, win $100
Polka Dot Jersey
The King of the Mountains (Polka Dot Jersey) classification always throws up a few surprising results and there is plenty of value in the market this year.
Mitchelton-Scott will be chasing stage victories this year at the Tour and Adam Yates will be their main contender in the mountains. It makes him a great pick for the polka dot jersey because if he can score some points early, the team will likely support him in his pursuit of the King of the Mountains title.
🔥 Pick: Adam Yates (+1800*)
*Bet $100, win $1800
